The Fan

You’ve got sunken eyes like sunken ships, the color is falling from you lips
Columbus had a mom saying, “Go for it!” and so he went sailing
We’ve got 10, 20, 30, 40 years of living and not a whole lot to show for it
If you discover me, I’ll discover you too (that’s got to count for something)

Wherever you go the stars will follow you…

You’ve been putting up way too strong a fight
You’ve been living for way too long to die
You’ve been holding on way to tight to let this slip away

You’re standing underneath that apple tree where Newton finally found his faculties
You’ve always had this gravity; it’s just that you never could see that

Wherever you go the stars will follow you…

You’ve been putting up way too strong a fight
You’ve been living for way too long to die
You’ve been holding on way to tight to let this slip away

I know it’s hard to understand what part you’re playing in this plan
Are you the shit, or the fan, or the ground where it lands?
Or could it be you’re so much more?
Here’s a key -- hey kid, go find yourself a door

Wherever you go the stars will follow you…
Wherever you go the stars will follow you…
Wherever you go the stars will follow you…

-Matt Beem "The Fan" from The Part You're Playing
